Today is twenty-five days from Labor Day. Where has the summer gone? The unofficial end of the season is quickly approaching. What will you do in these remaining days?
This year, our local districts’ first day of school takes place the week before Labor Day, cutting the remaining days even shorter for many. It’s time to squeeze in a last getaway, relax on the beach, or do other leisurely activities you may enjoy. I suggest you count the days and ways you can make the best of them! Go and enjoy the great outdoors!
If you are looking for some last-minute suggestions for things to do outdoors before we run out of summer, here are a few ideas: Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theatre has some classic bands performing outdoors, including Santana with Earth, Wind, and Fire (August 13), the Goo Goo Dolls (August 20), Styx with REO Speedwagon (August 21), Rod Stewart (August 23), and Chris Stapleton (August 25). The Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville is hosting a Seafood Festival from August 20-21. The “Famous Foods ‘Taste the World’ Long Island” returns to Tanger Outlets in Deer Park on August 26-28. The Long Island Scottish Festival and Highland Games occur at the Old Westbury Gardens, Old Westbury, on August 27. A Shinnecock Powwow will be held on the Shinnecock Powwow Grounds, Westgate Road, off Montauk Highway on the Shinnecock Reservation, Southampton from September 3-5. How about visiting the Fire Island Lighthouse, open daily from 10 AM – 5 PM? Of course, a ride out to the east-end vineyards is always an option.
This Sunday, August 14, Good Shepherd is celebrating the great outdoors by holding its 8:00 AM and 10:15 AM worship services outside on the lawn. Please join us as we savor the beautiful weather and enjoy the gift of God’s creation. If you can’t make it, you are welcome to join us later for our indoor 6:00 PM Responsive Prayer liturgy.
Blessings,
Pastor Marc
